We document, we do not fundraise.
A 501(c)(4) founded by Will MF King of Stafford County to make the Rappahannock Regional Jail legible to the four communities that pay for it. Records requests, arithmetic on public documents, public comment, and writing that says what the arithmetic means.
No money, for now.
We cannot accept donations at this time. No giving button, no membership, no merchandise. Nobody paid for a figure on this site.
The help we want is your three minutes at a podium, your own records request, or a ride for someone who needs one. All of it is on Act, all of it free, none of it needs your name.
Who is behind it
Will MF King, Stafford County. Justice-impacted, and saying so is the point: the people who know how this building works learned it the hard way. He signs the records requests, gives the public comment in the minutes, and writes as Sir Paul the Apostle on the blog.
Records correspondence runs through a records desk, Cache King, which tracks requests, deadlines and productions. A person reviews every message before it goes out and reads every response. We introduced it to the Authority by name, in writing, the first time we used it.
How we verify
- Primary documents or nothing. Nearly every figure on this site comes from the Authority's own RRJA July 23, 2026 agenda packet — its financial statements, revenue and expenditure reports, prisoner-day report, monthly performance measures, and board minutes.
- Arithmetic is shown, not asserted. Where we divide one of their numbers by another, we print both inputs. Every data page links the underlying CSV.
- Provenance travels with the figure. What it counts, the period, the document, the page, the retrieval date, and whether it is audited.
- Unaudited means unaudited. These are management reports, not audited financial statements, and we say so on every page that uses them.
- “Reported” and “documented” are different words and we use them precisely. An account we cannot corroborate is reported. A figure from a public record is documented.
- No unverifiable numbers about ourselves. No follower counts, reach or views anywhere on this site. An unverified number about ourselves is the easiest thing to catch us inflating.
On deaths in custody
Nine deaths were reported at Rappahannock Regional Jail across 2022, 2023 and 2024 — three, four and two. That is a row in a table the Commonwealth publishes: the Virginia Board of Local and Regional Jails, Calendar Year 2024 Annual Report of Jail Death Reviews, July 1, 2025, Deaths by Facility, p. 7. The same table reports 68, 51 and 48 statewide, 167 across the three years, and this jail's nine is tied with Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority – Abingdon and Western Virginia Regional Jail for the second-highest three-year total of any facility in Virginia, behind Riverside Regional Jail's twelve. The document is on this server; read the row yourself.
The table describes no individual death, and neither do we. What the Authority's Board was told about each death, and what it did, is in no record we hold; we have not yet asked. When we do, it goes on the docket the day it is sent.
Corrections
Corrections are published, dated, and left in place: the original stays visible, struck through, with a note saying what was wrong and when we learned it. As of August 22, 2026 the log is empty.
Found something wrong? Write to us and we would rather hear it from you than from a lawyer.
Not anti-staff. Not anti-safety. Not neutral.
Not against the people who work there
Corrections officers did not write the budget, did not draft the grievance policy and did not decide which programs stopped running. They are covering vacancies with overtime. A facility built around restoration needs more trained staff, better paid, not fewer.
Not against safety
Some people are dangerous and some days a cell is the honest answer. Our claim is narrower: holding 1,105.34 people a day, most of them legally innocent, at $124.34 each, is not doing what it costs.
Not neutral
We are not a newsroom and we do not pretend to be. We have a position: ten of them. What we owe you is not neutrality, it is accuracy, and those are different obligations.
