Tell us what you saw.
You can write one line or ten pages. You do not have to give your name. A person reads every message that comes in, usually within three days.
The plain-language promise
- What we do with it. We read it and look for a document that supports it. It may become a figure on The Record or a records request, with nothing of you in it.
- What we never publish. Your name, your loved one's name, a jail ID, a booking photo, or anything that could identify you — unless you tell us in writing that we may.
- You can take it back. One request and anything of yours is unpublished within 24 hours.
- We cannot give legal advice. We can tell you what a record is and how to ask for it.
- We cannot protect you from retaliation. Read the next box before you decide how to reach us.
- No trackers. No analytics, no pixels, no third-party scripts. Nothing fires when you press send.
Calls from the jail are recorded and monitored.
Assume every call and tablet message from inside is recorded, stored, and readable by staff. If what you have to say could be used against you or someone you love, do not send it on the jail's system.
Safer channels. Have someone outside write to us for you. Mail a letter to someone you trust and have them type it. Or write to uncagerrj@protonmail.com from an unmonitored phone. Say only what you could stand to have intercepted, and tell us there is more.
If you work or worked at the jail, use the staff form below. Identify no coworker unless you mean to. We have never named a staff source.

What happens next
A person reads it, usually within three days. If you asked to be contacted, we write back with what the record can and cannot support. If your account needs a document we do not have, we request it and put the request on the public docket where you can watch the clock run.
Retention: intake messages live in one mailbox and in an encrypted backup, and are deleted on request. We do not collect what we would not want to be compelled to produce. Hostile records requests aimed at us, subpoenas for intake, and doxxing of contributors are all in our threat model; data minimization is the only defense that actually works.
